Vineyard

My wine's lost its flavor the grapes are all gone,
Yet I continue to swill to drown out life's song.
Painful memories are all that's left for me now,
empty bottles mask and dull them somehow.
It seems that I no longer have any direction,
Any fight, any care or any connection.
There was a time when I thought love ruled my life,
but was beaten, replaced with hate pain and strife.
Loneliness now seems to be my only friend,
yet alone is how I always pictured the end.
My footsteps seem to be all in the same place,
a path Ill chosen and fallen from grace.
I speak to my pillow each night before sleep,
and pray to the lord my grapes he will keep.
