Unwanted Surprise

I get free medication, three hots and a cot,
from the trauma in my mind that can't be forgot.
It only happens when my mania leads me astray,
and my mind goes to that place far away.
Some say I'm a madman some say I'm their friend,
some whisper under their breath as it joins with the wind.
I say that I'm me and that's all I can,
just a person with a disorder some don't understand.
It's cost me to lose my children and my wife,
they can't understand what takes over my life.
Today I am balanced enjoying life as I can,
tomorrow there may be an insane master plan.
I've battled with Satan, saw Aliens in the night,
was it all real or an intrinsic fight?
Where do we go when our mind goes astray,
and our manic delusions take us away?
You know the strangest thing about losing our mind?
It could happen to anyone, at anytime.
