Lonely

      Dragging on this cigarette,
in a world I can't forget.
Puffing away time with each breath,
awaiting my inevitable death.
What happened to my days now lost,
where things were free and without cost.
Where love and life combined as one,
under my now darkened, hopeless sun.
Now the past just torments me,
I'm filled with salt from a dried up sea.
It's draining all my energy,
will I have the power to get free?
Or will I expire from all the brine within,
without a lover or one true friend.
