Helpful History

You can eat cake or you can eat candy.

Having a sweet tooth is fine and dandy.

But the sweetest thing I ever did find

was the wisdom that freed my heart, soul and mind.

It didn't come from reading a book or two.

It emerged from knowing beautiful people like you.

People that live without any care,

people who have truly learned how to share.

How to share a great gift from within,

and don't meet a stranger, just friend after friend.

Many of them had story after story to be told,

and how they emerged victorious and bold.

In every story they had beautiful wisdom to find.

About overcoming the perils in life and its painful design.

Now as I sit here at fifty six years old,

I reminisce on the stories I was told.

I can still see their faces, smiles and tears

as their beautiful wisdom met with my ears.
